The Journey of Battered Soul
(I hope you don’t mind. This post is from six years ago, but I felt led to repost it.)
This is the journey of Battered Soul, searching for love, rest, and peace...
Gaping wounds of vengefulness and scars of disdain covered his body from the rocks of insults and hatred hurled at him by others.
He never knew where he belonged. He never felt welcomed or comfortable, even in his own family.
All the weight of adversity dragged him down, drooping him over into a question mark. With a soul so battered and scarred, he could barely make it through each day.
Having heard of Peaceful Valley, he set out to find it, hoping to replace his troubles and suffering with the valley’s blessings.
So, the journey of Battered Soul began.
He set out on the King’s Highway, as that was touted to be the true path to follow. However, one day, he wasn’t paying attention and got off-track, straying from the true path and entering into the deep Gorge of Mistreatment.
Thinking he’d left all the hurt behind, he encountered the beast Abuse, whose appetite for meanness could never be satiated.
The Beast called out with his offensive voice, but Battered Soul rushed through the gorge and found a vast open space as it greeted him on the other side.
Thinking this to be a restful place to stop, he soon changed his mind when deep darkness engulfed him, for he had entered the Valley of Death Shadows with its menacing gloom.
The giant Discouragement lived here and set his traps of doubt, worry, and unbelief and all sorts of other negative devices for unsuspecting travelers. He called out with his enticing voice, coaxing Battered Soul to come live in his valley.
But Battered Soul drew upon the little courage he had left and fled the darkness, managing to avoid Giant’s traps, as his faith kept him going.
Escaping the Valley of Death Shadows, he then experienced the Lake of Grief, the Gulley of Guilt, the Desert of Misery, and the Wilderness of Wandering.
In his weakened and exhausted condition from going through each of these miserable places, he stumbled into the Pit of Despair.
Ready to give up as his last bit of faith waned, he heard a gentle voice say, “Your burdens are too great for you. Let Me take them from you. Here, take My hand. I’ll help you out of the pit.”
“Who are you, sir?”
“I am the Great Shepherd. I’ve come to carry your burdens. I bring you love, peace, comfort, and rest.”
He gladly took the Shepherd’s hand, and once out of the pit, he fell at the feet of the Great Shepherd. “Here,” cried Battered Soul. “Take my burdens. I can no longer carry any of them.”
Then, the Great Shepherd whispered lovingly to him, “Fret no more. From now on, we will walk together through everything. But all will not be sweetness and light. So some days, you must let your faith allow Me to carry you. My servants Mercy and Grace will be your companions in all you do. And I will share Hope, Love, Comfort, Rest, and Peace with you always.”
All that Battered Soul had searched for was found in the Great Shepherd, who filled his emptiness with His fullness.
The Great Shepherd set him back on His Highway, the True Path, and led him to that Peaceful Valley, where green pastures of rest and still streams of peace were found.

If you are a Battered Soul, the Great Shepherd will be with you every step of your Homeward journey, no matter what you encounter.
May you always know the blessings of Peaceful Valley...Lynn
