🥰 Letters from the Couch: Managing While He's Away!

Managing While He’s Away!

I wonder…am I a good manager of God’s Kingdom?

*******

After telling one of His parables, Jesus asked Peter, “Who then is the faithful, thoughtful, and wise servant, whom his master has put in charge of his household to give to the others the food and supplies at the proper time?” (Matt. 24:45 AMPC)

The Lord asks the same of each of us, “Are you a wise and faithful servant of the Lord? Have I given you the task of managing My household, to feed my children day by day? Blessings on you if I return and find you faithfully doing your work. I will put such faithful ones in charge of everything I own!” (Matt. 23:45-47 TLB)

On the other hand, Jesus says “that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes… For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:47, 48b NKJV)

And this servant’s penalty for being unprepared? God will “appoint him his portion with the hypocrites,” (Matt. 24:51b NKJV) for “it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” (1 Cor. 4:2 NKJV)

Faithful. Are we?

Whatever tasks we undertake in life, whether picking up a husband’s socks, taking care of a wife’s car, confronting an employee for making a mistake, disciplining children, doing some good deed, maintaining a ministry, or witnessing, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,” (Col. 3:17 NIV) as “working for the Lord rather than for people.” (Col. 3:23 NLT)

It is all done as if to or for Jesus or as if He asked us personally to do the task. And sometimes, He does.

All our tasks, our deeds, and our words, if done according to God’s purpose, will indicate whether or not we are wise and faithful servants. Just as Potiphar handed over complete authority and responsibility of his household to his faithful servant Joseph, Jesus delegated authority to us, leaving us in charge of His Kingdom’s household, to be good managers of all our duties.

Each of us is a representative, an ambassador, of the King of heaven. We are to oversee the interests of His Kingdom on earth. If we mind the Lord’s business, He will mind ours. And we will be then be of benefit to others.

Are we wise servants and managers of God’s household, doing His will, expanding the Kingdom’s business? One day, will God say to us, “What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management”? (Luke 16:2 NIV) Will He then say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities.” (Matt. 25:21b NLT)

Or will we have our lot cast to be with the hypocrites because Jesus said that the servant who knew His master’s will and did not prepare himself or do according to His will shall suffer the consequences.

Will we suffer for being unprepared or unfaithful or rewarded for being obedient and faithful to God’s will?

Oh, Lord, I want to be a faithful and wise servant in Your Kingdom, doing Your will to manage things according to Your purpose until You return, being of benefit to others. May I never be one who is not prepared or unfaithful. In Jesus Name, Amen!

May you always be a faithful, wise, and good manager of God’s Kingdom...Lynn

My spiritual birthday is also this month. 69! Yay! The other day, I thought back to 1976, when we celebrated our country’s 200th birthday... I thought about…the great bicentennial and watching on television all the awesome festivities, which included an international fleet of tall ships in New York City’s harbor and the...

View this email in your browser Lean in a Little Closer This story has been passed around, so I do not know who to attribute it to. Maybe you’ve even heard it or read it. It’s about a young man and an old preacher. A young man lost his job and didn’t know which way to turn. So he went to see the old preacher. Pacing about the preacher’s study, the young man ranted about his problem. Finally, he clenched his fist and shouted, “I’ve begged God to say something to help me, preacher, why doesn’t...
