Jesus Still Walks the Waves
Dear storm-tossed soul, this is for you...
Jesus still walks the waves.
At times, roseate light can fill life, filling us with joy and thanksgiving, and at other times, life’s ashen clouds darken our surroundings, pouring out their contents and bringing us heartache, pain, discouragement, and challenges.
In those times, seeing only Jesus as our source of all help, encouragement, strength, guidance, and answered prayer will carry us through the swells of life.
Not just physical storms, but personal storms: for Jesus still walks the waves.
When we encounter times of turbulence, our hearts are tossed from side to side, rising and falling with each wave of crisis. In those tumultuous hours, softly across the crashing surges of difficulty will come the powerful Voice, and Peace will still the cresting swells.
David said, “Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He hushes the storm to a calm and to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea are still. Then the men are glad because of the calm, and He brings them to their desired haven.” (Ps. 107:28-30 Ampc)
Calm may not always immediately surround us, but it can occupy our hearts. We can rest in God’s peace and be harbored in His safety.
Jesus still walks the waves.
And if we watch the swirling waves of difficulty too intently, they will threaten to overtake us. Just as they did to Peter.
But, as Charles Spurgeon once said...
“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.”
Isn’t that a wondrous quote?
Oh, dear one, have that same attitude as Spurgeon. Embrace those treacherous waves of the storm that desire to suck you under, for in the midst of that turbulence is the presence of the Lord. And oh, to kiss the surging tempest and be thrown against the Rock of Ages.
When that happens, do not doubt that God is in control of your storm-tossed life. He is sovereign over every swelling of the waves.
The Lord is there to still the roiling waters. He will appear to you in your soul-wrenching situation in the most wondrous way so that your heart will burst with joy and thanksgiving.
Maybe He will rescue you, taking you out of that circumstance. Or He may leave you there. But certainly, He will never leave you alone, for He stands by you, seeing you through it all. For His glory and your benefit.
The Lord says to you, “Take heart. I’m here. With you. I will not let you go under.”
For Jesus still walks the waves.
Sink back into His open arms of comfort and rest your tired head upon the breast of His love.
Remain in His precious presence until you are refreshed and reinforced with the knowledge that your spirit is ready to live out the life He desires for you.
Allow His love to permeate every fiber of your being and be strengthened and encouraged to rise and go out again.
You will get wet but the Lord will not allow you to drown. Ride upon those waves of victory with Him.
He walks the crest of those waves, for He’s still the eternal Wave-walker! Kiss those waves that bear His footprints.
And across the tumult of trials will come the Still Small Voice, “Peace be still.” (Mark 4:39 NKJV)
May you be blessed to kiss the waves that throw you against the Rock of Ages...Lynn
